Free Practice ACT and SAT Test

On February 16th, March 16th, & April 20th, College Tutors of Cary is offering for free, their most popular practice ACT & SAT Tests.

We welcome all 11th or 12th grade students to participate in the practice tests, which assist in measuring their progress thus far and areas still in need of improvement, as well as gain comfort and familiarity with the timing and pacing of the full-length test.

Our practice ACT or SAT test – the student chooses when registering – is a previously released version of each test, and is administered following the same format that students will experience on the real test day. Your students should be at the testing site at 8:30 a.m. and testing begin at 8:45 a.m. Both tests conclude between 12:45 – 1:00 p.m.

The test will be held at Hope Community Church, 821 Buck Jones Road in Raleigh. Students should bring a photo ID, sharpened pencils, calculator (we will not be able to provide them), watch, a snack, and a water bottle. Upon completion, we will lead your student through scoring of the multiple choice portions of his or her own test, ending at approximately at 1:00 p.m. Note that the SAT and ACT Writing Test evaluation will be done by our tutors subsequent to the practice test and we will provide those results to you at a later time.

When testing has concluded, students leave with their preliminary scores and ideas about how they can improve their scores before the real test. Information about our test prep services will also be available for interested parents. There is no obligation to pursue our test prep services upon taking advantage of our free practice test.

Registrations are accepted until 5:00 pm on the Wednesday prior to the practice tests (February 13th, March 13th, & April 17th). Space is limited and we sometimes have to turn late registrations away, don’t delay. To register a student, or if you have questions about this test or our test preparation tutoring, please e-mail Jenn Temple at or phone at (919) 896-7227.

WCPSS remains U.S. district with the most nationally certified teachers

The Wake County Public School System continues to lead the nation with the highest number of nationally board-certified teachers. Information released by National Board for Professional Teaching Standards shows an additional 111 Wake County educators earned their national certifications in 2012, and 107 more renewed their certifications.

Certification is achieved through a rigorous, performance-based assessment that typically takes one to three years to complete. Teachers must complete the renewal process every 10 years.

The national program began 25 years ago under the leadership of former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt. In the decades since, more than 100,000 teachers have earned the distinction nationwide. Read more about the program and research on ties to student success here.
